We provide support, resources, prayer & education to families of young adults recovering from a Traumatic Brain Injury.
The Pray4Gray foundation was established in order to honor Grayson Pope’s fight following a Traumatic Brain Injury that was sustained through circumstances beyond his control. Prior to his accident and TBI, Gray was a loving and caring individual who began each day with a big smile on his face and was always there for his family, friends, and teammates. Our mission is to honor the life of a young man who loved hard and lived to help others. While Grayson continues his fight, our goal is to provide support, resources, prayer, and education to families of young people who are in a similar situation. We know this is what Grayson would want us to do and he will be so excited to assist in carrying on this work when he heals. Through our programs and services, we look forward to inspiring hope for families, fostering resilience, and empowering young people to live their best lives.
Grayson Pope, 16 years old, a rising junior and a standout baseball player committed to Tennessee was in a freak accident June 6, 2023, while golfing with friends. It was a sunny day until it wasn't, a pop up storm appeared with strong winds and rain causing a tree to uproot and land on the golf cart Grayson was driving. It knocked Grayson unconscious, but thankfully his 4 great friends with him saved his life and got him help.
Grayson was transported to UAB with a Traumatic Brain Injury, a fractured skull, bleeding and swelling of the brain, bruised lungs and other cuts. Grayson received a craniotomy, which relieved the pressure and after 1 week the ventilator was replaced with a tracheostomy.
After a month in the hospital, Grayson is in a semi-conscious state and starting to follow commands. We had a minor set back when it was realized his right ring finger was broken, it has since been fixed with 3 pins and is on its way to mend.
Grayson received a cranioplasty, on July 11, 2023, to replace the piece of skull that was removed a couple of days after the accident. Grayson is recovering quickly and we are constantly in AWE of his cognitive improvements and his drive.
On July 18, 2023, Grayson was transported to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, one of the finest rehab facilities in the nation to continue his recovery journey.
While at Shepherds, Grayson worked on vocals, strength and condition training, played games and enjoyed visits from family and friends. We are happy to report that on September 22, 2023 at 10am, surrounded by friends and family Grayson graduated from the Shepherd Center where he brought everyone to tears by walking out. Yes WALKING out!! After graduation, the family moved into an apartment in Atlanta while Grayson went to therapy at Pathways, which is the next step in his journey and of course he rocked it.
As of November 18, 2023, The Pope's are home. Grayson is receiving therapy here in Birmingham and improving daily. He has been able to attend workouts with Hewitt Trussville Baseball and will be returning to school in January 2024.
Grayson is our miracle!!! We enjoy seeing his accomplishments each day, but it is his determination and love of the lord that we are in constant awe of.
UPDATE:
August 2024, Grayson started his Senior Year of High School. He is a rock star that continues to excel in everything he does.
